Politician quits ‘gruelling’ job

Disgraced Northern Victoria MP Steve Herbert resigned from Victorian politics last week, saying he could no longer commit 100 per cent to the job.

Mr Herbert was forced to the backbench last November after he admitted using his ministerial car to ferry his dogs, Patch and Ted, more than 120km between his city and country properties while at work.

At the time, Mr Herbert said he would not nominate, or contest, the 2018 state election.

“In Opposition I had the honour of being Labor’s Shadow Minister for Higher Education, TAFE and Training and — being a portfolio that I loved — I gave it my all,” Mr Herbert told Parliament last Thursday.
