Raising awareness of mental health

TODAY marks the start of National Youth Week, a government funded awareness week for youth across the state and country.

Swan Hill will be celebrating the achievements of local youths and bringing awareness to youth related issues through a series of events held this coming week.

On April 8, the second round of the Central Murray Football and Netball League will be a ‘headspace’ round.

The event aims to raise community awareness of youth mental health services within the community.

Health Promotion Officer and event organiser Hayden Collins said the event was purely an awareness imitative and not a fundraising one.

“We are trying to raise the profile of general health and mental health issues within young people aged between 12 and 25, as a show of support through our staff members and volunteers at each match,” he said.

“There will be merchandise, there will be presentations before senior footy and netball, headspace branded balls will be used in the presentations for things like best on ground,” Mr Collins said.
