A suspicious fire destroyed a house in Swan Hill on Wednesday night.
The fire broke out in the front porch of the McBain Street house just after 9pm.
Swan Hill crime investigation unit Detective Senior Constable Michael Corridan said a neighbour observed the fire and attempted to extinguish the flames, but high winds and the fuel load forced him back.
The fire spread through the roof.
Det Snr Const Corridan said a female, 31, was alone at the home at the time of the incident.
“The neighbour got her out through the back door and over the back fence,” he said.
Fire crews from Beverford, Swan Hill and Woorinen South attended the fire, while police also attended.
Arson squad detectives attended the scene yesterday afternoon and determined the fire to be suspicious.
Police said investigations were continuing.
