When Lea Johnson’s husband died, her accounts were frozen and she was forced to borrow money from her parents for groceries and house repayments.
Now, Ms Johnson is a leading community figure in Swan Hill, representing the Central Ward on council.
Her incredible feat from financial ruin to riches was recently penned in finance expert Scott Pape’s latest book, The Barefoot Investor: The Only Money Guide You’ll Ever Need.
“Lea Johnson’s story is inspirational,” Mr Pape told The Guardian.
“From a grieving widow starting from scratch, she has pulled herself up by the bootstraps to provide for her family.
“I applaud Lea for sharing her passion for financial literacy with her children and community.
“My book has been a bestseller for nine weeks now and the reason is it provides hope for people in all circumstances and Lea embodies that by being able to pull herself out of an unthinkable situation.”
