AN EMPTY suburban house in the middle of Swan Hill poses an immediate solution for the youth housing crisis facing Swan Hill.
The property, owned by the Department of Health and Human Services has been vacant for six months according to neighbours and past care employees.
The humble three bedroom, one bathroom house with a staff office and ensuite has been used by Mallee Family Care and Vista to house displaced youth in the past.
The property was last occupied by Vista Out of Home Care before funding issues caused them to shut their doors and ship their young tenants to Bendigo.
At Friday’s round table, the house was raised as an example of a possible immediate housing solution.
However, the department declined to comment on the current use of the house.
