While Gannawarra shire has been flushed with success, a local volunteer believes one of Swan Hill’s most “disgusting” toilet amenities should be demolished and new ones built at the nearby comfort centre.
Beryl Lowe, who volunteers at the comfort centre, has heard more flushes than anyone else in two decades.
She believes council needs to pay greater attention to hygiene at the McCallum Street toilet block.
“They are disgusting,” Ms Lowe said.
“There is no paper towel, no soap, it’s cold and dark.”
Ms Lowe said visitors, shocked at the conditions of the toilet block, would often walk over to the comfort centre to use their toilet facilities.
She said many visitors to the comfort centre often complained about the state of the McCallum Street facilities.
