More than 160 speeding offences were detected in the Swan Hill region during a statewide Easter road policing operation.
A horror run of 12 deaths over 13 days on Victorian roads marred the end of Operation Nexus, which ran from Easter Thursday to Anzac Day.
Across the Swan Hill police service area, police detected six drink drivers, one drug driver, six disqualified/suspended drivers, eight unlicensed drivers, 165 speeding offences, three disobey signs/signals, five seat belt offences, two mobile phone offences and 23 unregistered vehicles.
Swan Hill highway patrol unit Sergeant Les McPhee said there was still a minority of road users behaving irresponsibly on regional roads.
“We need to all work together to ensure we reach zero deaths and injuries on the roads,” Sgt McPhee said.
He said the high number of unregistered vehicles detected could be blamed on a change in the registration renewal system bought in by VicRoads three years ago, which meant registration labels were no longer needed for light vehicles.
