Potential organisers of this year’s New Year’s Eve celebration will literally be given more bang for their buck, with Swan Hill Rural City Council offering up to $30,000 to a community group, individuals or businesses to run the local celebrations.
Expressions of interest to run the event have been extended until July 28.
Mayor Les McPhee said it was a chance for a group to create a new and inclusive celebration.
“We hope that through this process we will also pave the way for something new, inclusive and with community ownership,” Cr McPhee said.
“Event proposals from community groups and businesses might be in the form of a small festival, a concert or a precinct party.
“Whatever it is, the event must encourage community participation, showcase local entertainers and have wide audience appeal.” He said with $30,000 contribution, the possible event ideas were endless.
“Organisers will also have the opportunity to raise funds through gate takings, stall holders and the sale of alcohol,” he said.
“It’s a perfect opportunity for community groups to come together and raise funds for their respective clubs.”
The proposed event and applicant must meet a range of criteria, but the successful applicants will nominate their choice of venue, and will have flexibility in the way the event is run and promoted.
Proposals will be accepted from community groups, organisations, business owners and individuals.
However, community based organisations who are legal entities, such as incorporated associations or community groups are preferred.
