Swan Hill has received a massive funding boost of almost $2 million towards its riverfront precinct project.
Federal Member for Mallee Andrew Broad made the announcement on Wednesday morning at Swan Hill’s Riverside Park.
The funding, provided through the federal government’s Building Better Regions Fund, will help kick start the almost $4 million project to “create a vibrant public access point” from Swan Hill’s CBD to the riverside.
“We have seen what great riverfront upgrades can do for towns and I am very excited to be able to announce this project is a go,” Mr Broad said.
“From an active play area and a skate park to a flying fox and large picnic area, this upgrade will revitalise the whole township of Swan Hill and make the riverfront a must see for tourists and a great place for local families.”
Swan Hill Rural City Council Mayor Les McPhee welcomed the contribution, which will be matched by $1 million in state funds.
Cr McPhee said council would also contribute nearly $1 million towards the project, with work to start as soon as possible.
“This is going to be great to open up our Riverside Park to the community and make it a regional attraction,” Cr McPhee said.
