THE Swan Hill region’s wine industry was on show at an awards ceremony in Cairns recently, with a Piangil winery scooping the pool with their award-winning wines.
Andrew Peace Wines’ 2018 Masterpeace Rose took out gold for the best wine for enjoyment in the tropics at the Cairns Wine Show earlier this month.
Sales manager George Dajczer said the win “vindicates” the winemaker Dave King’s decision to create the French-style Rose.
“And the other one, it really enhances the sales folks to then sell it,” he said.
Mr Dajczer said he believed the salmon-coloured rose won the award because chilled down, its “sublime” flavour would contrast with Cairns’ hot, humid weather.
“It has a different profile because it’s not a white,” Mr Dajczer said.
“It’s made from Shiraz (dark-skinned grape varieties) and Grenache (a red wine grape variety).
“The two combined very nicely, and the colour that makes it a lovely salmon rather than a rose pink just adds to the visual impact.”
