A BUDGET deficit, attacks on employees, ageing infrastructure and staff shortages continue to cripple Swan Hill District Health (SHDH), according to its annual report.
But, despite mounting challenges, the health service continues to meet performance targets.
The report, tabled to State Parliament last Thursday, outlined an operating deficit of $0.16 million before capital and specific items, for the financial year to June 30, 2018.
After capital and specific items, the deficit fell to just $1095.
It also noted 110 violent incidents reported by staff over the 12 months, with 3.6 per cent of those recorded resulting in staff injury, illness or condition.
As with other hospitals in the region, workforce shortage were identified as an ongoing issue.
The health service recorded a rise in presentations to the emergency department, community rehabilitation centre and day centre and its dietetics, occupational therapy, physiotherapy and speech pathology departments.
