Drugs, firearms seized: Man charged after police raid

POLICE stormed the door of a Swan Hill property on Tuesday afternoon, seizing drugs, firearms and stolen property.

A 34-year-old man has been charged with 12 offences, including drug trafficking, cultivation and possession of stolen property.

In a busy day for local officers, police also apprehended a Swan Hill youth in relation to numerous recent burglaries in the area.

Senior Sergeant Brad Bennett told The Guardian officers at the local station had put a lot of work into the first bust, executing a warrant about 1pm.

“You name it, we got it from there,” he said.

“There were drugs, firearms and stolen property, officers found some cannabis plants, we were looking for amphetamines but they were not located.”

The man, who Snr Sgt Bennett said was known to police, is facing a total of 12 charges in relation to the raid.

Snr Sgt Bennett said police conducted a thorough search of the property, with a total of three firearms uncovered by officers.

“The premises were searched, a large quantity of stolen items, firearms and drugs were located,” he said.

Snr Sgt Bennett said the man was cooperative with officers and no other persons were home or being sought in relation to the raid.

The man has been charged and bailed to appear at the Swan Hill Magistrates’ Court at a later date.

Snr Sgt Bennett said officers picked up another local later in the evening.

“Officers arrested a person wanted for a number of burglaries in our area, he was picked up last night,” he said on Wednesday.

Snr Sgt Bennett said the teenager was at his home address when officers were called to attend around 5.30pm.

“Police were called there by other people in the house as he was ‘smashing it up’,” he said.

“He was apprehended at his home address on other matters and as a result the stolen goods were located.

Snr Sgt Bennett said the youth was believed to have been involved in more than three burglaries in the area, but investigations were ongoing.

The youth was charged with burglary and bailed to face the Children’s Court at a later date.
