Stage is set: Funding in the works

RIVERFRONT projects across the Mallee and Riverina regions are in the running to receive almost $17 million in federal funding.

Swan Hill Rural City Council was one of seven local governments in the Mallee and Farrer electorates invited yesterday to submit full business cases to the federal government’s $272.2 million Regional Growth Fund.

Swan Hill Rural City Council Mayor Les McPhee said council had “led the charge” for the funding, which would deliver riverfront projects in Swan Hill, Gannawarra, Buloke, Loddon, Murray River, Edward River and Balranald council areas.

Cr McPhee said councils had committed $16.8 million and were seeking matched funding from the federal government.

Swan Hill’s submission — Our Region, Our Rivers — was one of only 16 projects chosen to move to the next stage of application, out of 300 received Australia-wide.

Projects put forward by successful councils include the construction of the Swan Hill foreshore redevelopment, an upgrade to Kangaroo Lake, the replacement of weir boards in Charlton, the development of the Bridgewater foreshore, and upgrades to the Boort, Wedderburn and Pyramid Hill caravan parks.
