SWAN HILL local Dawn Spencer can’t exactly remember when or how she started her knitting, but can recall sitting on her family couch around the age of four with knitting needles placed in her hands.
Now at 90 years old, Ms Spencer has recently been awarded a baker’s dozen of first prizes for her hand-knitted garments at the Royal Adelaide Show, held from August 31 to September 9, 2018.
“I don’t gamble, I don’t drink and I don’t smoke, so I’ve got to have some luxury in life,” Ms Spencer said.
“I tell people I’ve got an addiction, but it’s only an addiction to knitting.”
She was awarded 13 first prizes and two seconds after entering 17 garments for exhibit.
Her works include jumpers, scarves, shawls, blankets, beanies and baby wear.
“I think knitting baby wear would be my absolute favourite because the finer two-ply wool is really nice to work with,” Ms Spencer said.
