LAST Monday and Tuesday, the 22nd annual seniors’ tournament was held over 36 holes at Murray Downs with visitors from far and wide coming to play.
Monday’s winner in the 70-and-under ladies’ section was Wendy Dawson with 39 points, with Janelle Sullivan coming in second place with 37 points.
In the over-70 section for the ladies, it was June Gross with 39 points getting the win ahead of Jenny Day with 35 points.
NTPs for the ladies on Monday went to 5th Susan Reid, 11th Susan Reid, 15th Glenda Critchon.
In the under-68 men’s section Graeme Brierly found himself atop the leaderboard on 37 points, narrowly defeating Murray Bradley (second) and Mick McAuliffe (third) on a countback.
In the 68-73 section Colin McNamara claimed honours with 37 points also, ahead of Brian Paton with 37 points and Paul Raudino with 36 points.
In the 74-and-over section Jeff Riordan finished on top with 38 points in front of Geoff Gibbs and Colin Jacobs with 35 points each.
NTPs went to 2nd David Boromeo, 5th Gary Fumberger, 11th Neville Bottams, 15th Glenn Palmer.
Onto Tuesday’s competition in the under-70 ladies, Noala Crothers found herself on top of the leaderboard with 38 points, while Julie Schmidt came in second with 36 points.
In the 70-and-over ladies, 36 points was good enough for Maggie Smith to finish on top ahead of Edith Mason with 35 points.
NTPs 2nd Nola Crothers, 11th Gloria Roome, 15th Susan Reid.
Back into the men’s side of the draw and in the 67-and-under it was local regular Dale Rogers finishing on top with 40 points ahead of John Tripodi with 38 points and Rod Hill with 35 points.
In the 68-73 section, winner Cyril Saunders finished with 38 points, narrowly ahead of Alan McInnes with 37 points and Ross Jones with 36 points.
Into the 74-and-over section Kevin Jones won the day with 36 points ahead of Ian Gammon with 35 points and Brian Roberts with 34 points.

The winner of the 70-and-under ladies was June Crabtree with 71 points on a countback from Lynne Lawry.
In the 70-and-over section Jenice Krahnert claimed honours with 75 points and Susan Reid came in second place with 69 points.
The under-67 men’s category winner was Michael Coyne with 77 points, while Brendan Bell in second had 74 points.
In the 68-73 category Patrick Bastain claimed victory with 78 points ahead of David McFarland, 73 points.
The 74-and-over winner was John Everingham with 82 points, while Maurice Munro finished second on 76 points.
Saturday was the March edition of our monthly medal with 110 players taking to the course.
Our March monthly medal winner was Ross Hendy, who fired a great score of net 65 from his 23 handicap to claim honours.
A Grade winner Sam Davis continues to play solid golf, with his score of net 71 enough to edge out Jorgen Leschke on a countback.
B Grade winner Eugene Dunn’s score of net 68 was good enough for him to win on a countback from Andrew Halligan.
Rich River Golf Club visitor Steve Austin found himself comfortable on a foreign course, with his 72 net good enough to win C Grade ahead of James Beard on 73 net.

MURRAY DOWNS LADIES
A FIELD of 52 women teed off in the March monthly medal on Wednesday.
Dianne Nalder has been a regular golfer at Murray Downs for many years and came to the fore to win the medal with a score of 104-37-67.
In A Grade, current club champion Olive Spitty (3) 69 net parred the course to win from Jill McIndoe (21) 72 net.
The B Grade winners were Cassie Barnett (28) 69 net on a countback from Jenice Krahnert (29).
Kerry Gammon also scored 69 net but had to settle for a golf ball, as did Sally Fearn and Jenny Monohan who both scored 70 net.
Joan Foster was the best putter of the day with 28 putts. Naomi Domaille collected two NTP prizes with the others going to Lynne Bishop and Melita Sartori.
On Saturday, in what was a precursor to Wednesday’s score, Olive Spitty fired a scratch score of 71 which equated to 40 Stableford points.
Naomi Domaille (18) 37 points was runner-up. Jill Bath and Lynne Bishop led the ball rundown with 36 and 35 points respectively. Lynne Bishop and Melita Sartori were nearest the pin on the 2nd and 11th.
The Rutherford Street opening day Ambrose is next Wednesday’s event followed by Kennedy’s Jewellers Pink Day on March 20.
