Fire permits available

Moulamein Notes

THE rules have been changed and we are now allowed to burn off 12 months of the year with a permit.

You can now burn off on weekends, public holidays or even Christmas Day if you feel that way inclined.

Well, I did light up Australia Day because the wind was in the right quarter. For 365 days of the year you can burn unless it is a total fire ban, of course.

I think this is a great rule change and it brings the whole of NSW into line.

Be sure to get your permit, notify the white shirts and register your burn on the app. It is now an easy system to follow.

Coots by the thousands

THE coots got a bit thick out at our place so we called a few coot-busters in.

Worst coots they had ever seen was their verdict. We got more coot-busters back a few days later. Even worse was the verdict.

More than 2700 shotgun shells we put up into the air in less than a week. We virtually bought Swan Hill out of shotgun shells.

We had another shoot with even a few more coot-busters. There seemed to be a few hundred less flying around, or they are just getting smarter and not flying at all?

Thank you to all those that volunteer to do these shoots. We may eventually win.

The kite hawks think it is good. As soon as they hear a motorbike or a gunshot, they turn up by the dozen.

They know they are safe and that there is going to be a good fresh feed involved. We may be getting the big guns in soon. Stay tuned for the next exciting adventure.

Bowls season

BOTH teams were at home last week to our mates from Racecourse.

Division 3 still had a slight chance of getting into the finals, but we were playing the top side.

We needed a clean sweep to keep our finals hope alive. We went into smoko two rinks up and one rink well down.

It must have been the cream cakes as this rink picked up a seven and a three in the first two ends to get us back into a winning position.

With one rink a draw, one rink down, it came down to the last bowl of the day from our ever cool skip Quirky. Done, up by one overall.

Unfortunately, not enough to get us into the finals, but to beat the top team again shows that next year we will be up there.

Division 1 had a battle all day but couldn’t get up. Their spot is cemented in the four, they cannot be put out.

This week we both play Murray Downs, Division 1 away and Division 3 at home.

It will be a good test for both sides to see if we can match it with the best.

River levels

THE Edward River is still dropping at about 1.15 metres and 809 megalitres a day.

There was a bit of a rise when the Billabong pumpers stopped using off-quota, but this will be short-lived as the mighty Billabong has bugger all coming down to help our river levels out.

Not much will change with the levels, maybe just a bit lower. Check your boats, we do not want them to get grounded.
