Students stage a great night

BEVERFORD District Primary School students took family and friends on a journey to the Emerald City on Tuesday night.

The school’s end-of-year celebration featured dinner and a show as the barbecue fired up and students performed.

A production of The Wizard of Oz was the main feature.

Performing arts teacher Katie Blackmore said the audience was taken to Kansas, then the Emerald City, following Duncan – not Dorothy – and Toto as they encountered the Scarecrow, Tin Man and Cowardly Lion.

“We are really pleased with the turnout,” Ms Blackmore said.

“We were a little worried about the heat, but there has been a good roll-up to come and celebrate the kids.

“It’s all about the kids, our kids have been rehearsing since partway through last term.”

There was much excitement backstage as they prepared to perform for family, friends and the community.

As well as a celebration of the past 12 months and the 2023 academic year, the school of 32 students also said farewell to 10 pupils from Grade 6.

Ms Blackmore said it was not only students but families that would be departing.

“It is really sad for the school, some of these families have been with us for many, many years, and this is their last child that they are sending off to high school,” she said.
