MURRAY DOWNS MEN
THURSDAY’S men’s Stableford event had 73 players take to the course, Andrew Ferguson taking out the overall (and C Grade) winner of the day, with a handy 38 points from his handicap of 29.
The A Grade winner was Colin Mewburn, who tallied a solid score of 37 points and managed to scrape over the line by just one shot over Dale Rogers, who scored 36 points.
The B Grade competition was won by Rob Merrett with 35 points on a countback to Tori Ficarra, who also finished with 35 points.
The runner-up to in C Grade was Ritchie Merritt, who had a day out with 37 points, while the nearest the pins went to Ben Dyson (2nd), Mark Warren (5th), Roger Walker (11th) and Jason Stevens (15th).
Scoring went to another level in Saturday’s Stableford event, the overall winner being Tyler Aitken, who tore the course apart amassing 43 points from his handicap of 10.
The runner-up in A Grade was Mathew Collins, who returned to form scoring 40 points from his handicap of four.
In the B Grade competition, Rodney Begg claimed the win with 38 points over young gun Lucas Free, who had 37 points.
The C Grade winner was Luke Hogan, who had a very strong showing with 41 points, narrowly beating Glen Wilkes on a countback.
An honourable mention goes to Steven Kerr, who could consider himself unlucky to only win a ball for his 40 points, while the nearest the pins went to Dale Rogers (2nd), Gary Blencowe (5th), Mitchell Croft (11th) and Daniel Cruickshank (15th).
In Sunday’s Stableford event, young gun Lucas Free continued his strong form by taking out the overall prize with 40 points from his 18 handicap.
Matthew Quaife had a very solid score for the day, his 39 points enough to get him over the line by one, ahead of Darien Male with 38 points.
The runner-up to Lucas in B Grade was Steve Emberson, who scored 38 points, while the nearest the pins went to David McClelland (2nd), Paul Barry (5th), Mick Kiley (11th) and Tyrone Parkinson (15th).
Sunday was week five of the nine-hole summer competition, which had a big change at the top of the table.
With just three weeks remaining, the President’s Men have jumped to the top of the table and have a commanding eight-shot lead over Marlz Faves.
The individual weekly winner was Malcolm Talbot, who finished with 21 points and won on a countback.
Tuesday’s mixed Stableford event winner was Oscar Gale, who had the best score for the entire week, a massive 46 points from his 22 handicap.
The runner-up, from the Barham Golf Club, was Wayne Wisby with 39 points on a countback.
The nearest the pins for the day went to John Tripodi on the second and Graeme Giddings on the 11th.
MURRAY DOWNS LADIES
EXCELLENT scores were the order of the day on Wednesday when 62 women took out cards in the Stableford at Murray Downs Golf & Country Club.
Mary Johnson (35) with 44 points returned the best score of the day, this also being Mary’s personal best score at Murray Downs and equating to a scratch score of 99.
The runner-up in C Grade was Eileen Morath (34) with 39 points, while in the A Grade competition, Michelle Holt (26) 39 points and Naomi Domaille (18) 38 points were successful.
In B Grade, Judi Lonergan (28) 38 points survived a countback from Jill Bath (29) to claim victory.
Julie Overall, Libby Millar, Di Nalder and Mary-Anne Davis all scored 38 points to lead the ball pool, while Lois Carnie and Lyn Billing collected the nearest the pin prizes.
On Saturday, Jude Simmonds (22) with 36 points won the major prize on a countback from Shelley Wilkins (19), with Dionne Heppell, Sarah Clarke and Anne Webb the next best on 34 points.
Sue Davis and Gaye Legudi hit the most accurate shots to the second and 11th holes to claim the nearest the pins.
Kristy Gordon (15) with 40 points and Dione Heppell (11) with 34 points were Sunday’s winners.
Please note that an informal meeting will be held after golf next Wednesday to discuss possible changes to the women’s championships in 2024.
TOOLEYBUC LADIES
Wednesday, November 22 was a Stableford event.
Winner: Janet Brauer (23) 34 points.
Runner-up: Mary Robinson (43) 33 points.
Balls down the line: Lisa Zanker, Leonie Lambert, Narelle Fraser.
Nearest the pin 1/10: Lisa Zanker.
Nearest the pin 7/16: Narelle Fraser.
Trophy donor: Clarks and Tooleybuc Sporting Club.
VETERANS GOLF
THERE were 39 veteran golfers at Barham Golf Club on Tuesday for the Stableford event and they were lucky to finish before the storm arrived.
Thanks to the pro shop staff for your help and the greenkeepers for the condition of the course. The ladies’ winner was Geraldine Kennedy, who finished with 36 points on a countback from Joan Hobbs, who had to settle for the runner-up prize.
The men’s A Grade winner was David Wilkinson with 39 points, while Graham Wyte was declared runner-up with 34 points on a countback.
Joe Tartaglia was the winner of the B Grade competition with 37 points, while Ron Schultze came second with 34 points.
The ladies’ nearest the pins were won by Jenice Krahnert (6th and 12th holes), Meryl Cameron (9th) Shirley Jenner (19th), while the men’s were won by David Wilkinson (6th), Jack Hewitt (9th), Ross Fleming (12th) and Graham Wyte (19th).
The ball pool was taken out by Kerry Gammon, Jenice Krahnert, Joan Foster, John Brunt and Ray Henshall.
The next veterans event is the Christmas four-ball at Tooleybuc on Tuesday, December 12.
