Eagles add to nest

THE Mallee Eagles have announced their first new signing under new coaches Harry Allen and Brent Macleod, with explosive forward Daniel Freeman signing on to play with the Eagles in 2024.

Freeman joins the Lalbert based Eagles from Thomson Football Club in the Geelong and District Football League, where he kicked 149 goals from 58 games over the past five seasons for the Tigers.

Before joining Thomson, Freeman played with Ocean Grove in the AFL Barwon competition, kicking 98 goals in 62 games between 2017 and 2013.

Magpies fly west to Ultima

ULTIMA will have a distinctly Lake Boga feel about it next season, last week announcing two more Magpies will join the club in 2024.

Defender Matt Taverna and midfielder Cameron Johnson will join Ultima next season, announcing their departure from Lake Boga late last week.

Taverna had a breakout season in defence for Lake Boga this year and was consistently among the Magpies’ better players, while Johnson is expected to add further depth to Ultima’s midfield rotations.

Taverna and Johnson will link up with Lincoln Frost and Ricky Wild, who last week were reported to have departed Lake Boga.

Also returning in 2024 will be Marty Cooper, Jye Purtill and Quinn Grey, who were announced in the latest round of re-signings by Ultima.

Lions roar into 2024

GOLDEN Rivers reigning premiers Hay have taken their first steps towards their premiership defence, announcing the re-signing of premiership coach Mick Cattanach for next season.

Cattanach will be joined by another familiar voice at the Lions, with Jason Aylett set to join the premiership coach in a joint capacity.

The Lions have also added to the playing list for next season, announcing the return of former Hay junior Bentley Murphy, along with Christian Foster, for next season.

Murphy will return to his home club having spent the past six seasons playing with the Woollongong Bulldogs, and will bring with him fellow midfielder Foster.

Also donning the red, blue and gold will be premiership Lions Declan Watson, Joel Crocker, Brad Pocock and Jack Cattanach, who are the first of a batch of re-signings for Hay.
