MURRAY DOWNS

LAST Thursday was a beautiful day for social bowls, with 34 bowlers taking part in lovely spring weather.

Congratulations to Mick Tempini, Carl Fox and Barb Butcher, who were the winners, while the runners up were Lisa Critten, Di Scown and Mac Angus, with the jackpot won by Ray Halligan.

The Murray Downs Classic was held on Tuesday and Wednesday of this week, once again with magnificent spring weather.

Taking out the win this year were Brian Mansbridge, Lyndon Shadbolt and Brody Harker, while the team of Jordy, Lex and Josh Thornton finished as runner-up and Garry McCaig, Matt O’Bree and Owen Clark finished third.

Entries are being taken for the Murray Downs women’s tournament, which is being held on Tuesday, September 26, with a two-bowl triples format consisting of three games of 10 ends.

The day starts at 10.30am.

The Barham Challenge is being held at Murray Downs on Sunday, October 1.

RACECOURSE

ON SUNDAY, September 17, Racecourse held a practice match against the Kerang Bowls Club, which we ended up winning three and a half rinks each;, however, Kerang was well ahead on shots up.

The best rink for Racecourse comprised Peter Loughran, Kevin Vivian, Rob Rust and Bob McIntosh, who won by nine shots.

Wednesday jackpot bowls was won by Bryan Bice, Ernie Russell and Ned McKay with two wins and +17 shots, while the runners up, with one win and +6 shots, were Rob Hayes, Faye Devereux and Nevin Green.

Congratulations to Shane Domaille, Kylie Gardner and Neil Roberts on fourth place in the Murray Downs Classic.

Our upcoming events consist of our Marraboor Pharmacy Mixed Fours on Wednesday, September 27, and on Saturday, September 30, our any combination triples Muston’s Memorial Day for Cancer, starting at 9.30am.


SWAN HILL

THIS is the final call to all armed bowlers to enter the Swan Hill Bowls Club’s prestigious Bowling Arm Classic, which is being held this Sunday, September 24.

Entries will close at 5pm on Saturday.

Contact Bill King on 0428 324 083 or phone the Swan Hill Bowls Club on 5032 1772 to enter a team or put in a single entry.

The format is an any combination two-bowl triples, commencing at 10.30am.

The $75 entry fee includes morning tea, lunch and afternoon tea, plus three games of 10 ends of bowls, with one game before lunch and two games following.

Single entries are $25, with first prize being $300, second $180 and third $120, with the highest winning score for each game receiving their entry money back and the winning team being entered on the honour board.

A perfect day last Friday encouraged 31 bowlers to enjoy a game at Friday Frolic.

We welcomed Eric and Diane, who have been regular visitors over the years from Melbourne, with the women’s team consisting of Diane Millsteed, Esther Grey and June Sibley being lucky enough to crack the jackpot.

Today will also be a pleasant day to enjoy a game of bowls and get some practice in ready for the start of the pennant season, with names to be entered by 2.30pm for a 3pm start, with the usual frivolities to follow after the game in the clubhouse.


LAKE BOGA

A LARGE field of 58 players participated in the last pelican jackpot for the season in perfect weather conditions, with visitors from Sydney, Bunbury (Western Australia) and Bendigo taking part.

Winners for the day were Greg Clifford (Lake Boga), Lainie Aiello (Bendigo) and Allan Treble (City) while the runners-up were Peter Snell and Max Lord (Lake Boga) and Cath Parry (Racecourse).

The resting touchers prizes went to Ian Lawery, Cath Parry and Sally Meehan.

The big winners for the day were David Jonkers’ team, which consisted of John White and Tim Domaille, who each shared the jackpot of $162, with it being John and Tim’s first time competing in a bowls competition.

Many thanks to all the clubs that supported Lake Boga during our winter competition.

A reminder that our first practice for pennant against Cohuna is at home this Saturday from 1pm, with a 1.30pm start, with a list of the teams on the club noticeboard and on our Facebook page.

The following week we will be playing Kerang Golf at Kerang, with a 12.30pm start.

The winners this week for social bowls were Helen Jobling and David Condy with a score of +16, while in second place were Sally Meehan, Les Grey and Ken Hamill with a score of +9.
