Swans turn the tables

SWAN HILL have come out victorious in a grand final rematch against Balranald, beating the reigning premiers by five goals.

Swans’ coach Madeleine Nalder told The Guardian last week that she believed the game would come down to who would be able to best capitalise on the inevitable momentum swings throughout the game, and was pleased her team was able to make the most of their opportunities and come away with the four points on Saturday.

“We were happy to get the win in such a tight game,” Nalder said.

“We were expecting a close game, and it certainly delivered.”

It was a tight first quarter, with the Swans just getting ahead by three goals going into the first break. But by half-time, they were able to push their lead out to five goals, maintaining this buffer for the rest of the match.

Midcourter Karli McIntyre was among the Swans’ best, running hard in the centre bib all game yet remaining composed with the ball.

Swan Hill’s defensive pressure was also consistent, with Mollie Quinn and Hayley Neuschafer combining well in the ring to limit the Balranald goalers Bec Harvey, Ella Mirtschin and playing coach Jess Parry.

While Swan Hill now sit in second position on the 2023 Central Murray netball ladder, the loss pushes the reigning premiers just out of the top five.

Coming up against Tooleybuc-Manangatang in round 8, the Roos desperately need a high-percentage win in order to climb back into the top five.

The Swans will be looking to keep their winning streak alive when they host a fiery Woorinen in what should be a highly competitive match.

FINAL WHISTLE:

Balranald 42

Swan Hill 47
