RACECOURSE Bowls Club ran its first two-bowl triples skins tournament, with entries from Marong, Echuca and most clubs within the Murray Valley Playing Area taking part.

It was a great day, with each team playing 12 games of two ends.

There were two teams who won eight games (skins), tied for the day and had to be separated on a countback.

The winners were Doreen, Robert, and DJ Weaver on 48 points, with the runners-up being Neville Smith, Ernie Russell and Ian Lockhart, also on 48 points.

Jackpot bowls on Wednesday last week was won by Graeme Bennett, Neil Roberts and Peter Scott with two wins and +11 shots, while the runners-up were Don Poulton, Max Renney and Rob Rust with one win and +8 shots.

On Wednesday this week, jackpot bowls was won by Norm Smith, Mary Hooper and Peter Scott with two wins and +23 shots, ahead of Bryan Bice and Sam Blandthorn with one win and +6 shots.

Tonight we have our Friday night tea, double members’ draw and raffles.


SWAN HILL

FRIDAY Frolic will be on again today at the usual starting time of 3pm, please put your name in by 2.30pm to be in the draw, with the sun predicted to shine, even though the forecast temperature is low.

All are welcome, no experience required, bowls on loan if needed. If enough play, the jackpot will hit $200 and if not won on the first draw, there will be an ongoing draw for a minor jackpot of $100.

RSL Diggers day is scheduled for this Sunday if enough entries are received.

The format is any combination two-bowl triples, at $75 per team, $25 per single entry, which includes lunch and afternoon tea. The day commences with lunch at 11.30am, with the RSL stand to at 12.15pm and play to begin after that.

There is good prizemoney on offer, with $450 for the winners, $300 for second, $150 for third and entry fee back for best winning team for each game.

Entries close 9am on Sunday.

Men’s Triples winners: D.Barry and team (Murray Downs). Runners-up: R.Renn and team (Mitcham). Third: W.Gneil (Marong), P.Howard (Mt. Waverley), F.Burge (Swan Hill).

Friday, May 12

Saturday, May 13

Sunday, May 14

Monday, May 15

Any combination triples winners: M.Curnow, L.Graham, G.Ritchie (Warrnambool). Runners-up: P.Furnell, T.Furnell, N.Weir (Murray Downs). Third: A.Marshman, G.Clark (Swan Hill), E.Russell (Racecourse).

It has been pleasing to see a mix of both visiting and local bowlers sharing the prizemoney during the carnival, with some teams made up of visitors and locals.

All have vowed to return for our 58th Carnival next year, with many rebooking their accommodation.

A modified game of social bowls was played this Wednesday, with visitors attending from South Australia, the winners being Alex Hill and Esther Grey.

Social bowls will be on each Wednesday providing we get the numbers, with names to be in by 12.30pm for a 1pm start.

Members are reminded that the Swan Hill Bowls Club AGM will be held at the clubhouse on Thursday, June 1 at 2pm, please attend.

A presentation evening is planned for Sunday, June 4, to be held at the RSL bistro 6.30pm.

LAKE BOGA

JACKPOT winners last Saturday were Peter Snell, Brian Warren and Bob McIntosh, runners-up were Ian Ross, Ron Dewhurst and Jean Leach.

The jackpot will be $387 tomorrow, with names to be in by noon for a 12.30pm start, single entries only.

We welcomed 12 players to Wednesday social bowls this week, with the winners being Ray Leach, Ron Atkinson, Danny Kelly and Amber, while the runners up were Ian Ross, Max Parsons, Keith Anderson and Lyn Maher.

On duty next week is John Pye, and the following week is again John Pye.

Lake Boga’s Biggest Morning Tea will be held at the Bowling Club on Monday, May 29 from 10am.
