Free acting workshops

YOUNG people in Swan Hill will have the chance to explore acting from one Australia’s leading centre for performing arts.

The free National Institute of Dramatic Art (NIDA) Connect Acting Course gives participants an introduction to a broad range of fundamental acting skills.

It did this through practical workshop exercises exploring improvisation, spontaneity, physicality and the key principles of the Stanislavski system.

Swan Hill Town Hall venue manager Simon Myers told The Guardian that having schools like NIDA come to Swan Hill was “essential”.

“The exposure is what is missing up here for students, or for anybody, but if they get that exposure and also the expertise, then they are on the same track as everybody else,” he said.

“It is a quality course, so we can’t take for granted that these quality shows are coming up here.”

The course is open to 15 to 18-year-olds, and will be held on Friday, May 19 from 4pm to 8pm, Saturday, May 20 from 10am to 5pm, and Sunday, May 21 from 10am to 5pm.
