Clubman’s header scores for Leukaemia Foundation

SWAN Hill Soccer League member Brady Dalton has raised more than $800 after taking part in the World’s Greatest Shave.

Mr Dalton braved the shave in front of his fellow club members during the club’s Summer 5s competition.

Taking part in the Leukaemia Foundation fundraiser was a spur-of-the-moment decision for the 19-year-old, who said the haircut was long overdue.

“I’d been growing my hair for around one and a half years and it was getting too long,” Mr Dalton said.

“I enjoy volunteering and this was a way to make a difference.”

His family, friends and soccer club rallied behind the teenager, digging deep for the cause.

“I really only had a solid month of fundraising leading up to the shave,” he said.

“The soccer club was very, very supportive.”

Describing the experience as “uplifting”, Mr Dalton said it was great to know he had contributed to a worthwhile cause.

However, he admitted he was still getting used to his new look.

“This is a totally new experience for me,” he said.

“I haven’t had my hair this short since I was a kid. The last time I had a buzz cut was in Grade 4.”

With winter fast approaching, Mr Dalton said the cooler months would be interesting.

“It’s a horrible time in the season to consider something like this,” he said with a laugh.

“Luckily, I like wearing a beanie in the cooler months.”

Mr Dalton said he would like to thank everyone who contributed to his fundraising efforts, which coincided with the World’s Greatest Shave’s 25th anniversary.

His donation will go towards the continued work of the Leukaemia Foundation for people impacted by blood cancer.

Mr Dalton said it wasn’t too late for other members of the community to show their support. Donations can be made online at the World’s Greatest Shave website.
