Livestock shock

POLICE are investigating the alleged theft of livestock from a Meatian property last month.

Twenty-six merino ewe lambs went missing from the property on Mystic Park-Meatian Road some time between February 22 and 23.

Jewellery missing

JEWELLERY has allegedly been stolen from a Swan Hill home.

An offender was said to have accessed a home in Murlong Street and taken the items some time between February 27 and March 5.

Weapons charge

A MAN has been charged after police allegedly found prohibited weapons, including a homemade hand gun.

Officers attended the Swan Hill address on February 18 and located the hand gun and ammunition.

The 65-year-old was bailed to appear in court at a later date.

Highway blazes

POLICE are probing three separate fires on the Murray Valley Highway on March 3.

Firefighters were called to extinguish the small blazes along the side of the highway at Tyntynder South.

Highway blazer

POLICE decided against impounding a Mercedes after its speeding owner claimed “hardship”.

Highway patrol stopped the vehicle heading north on the Murray Valley Highway at Reedy Lake shortly before 11.30am on February 28.

The Berwick driver, 37, was travelling at 153km/h in a 100km/h zone.

He was fined $925 and lost his licence for 12 months.

Learning a lesson

A ROBINVALE learner driver has lost his licence after being caught speeding, driving without an accompanying passenger and with drugs in his system.

Police stopped a white Holden Commodore heading north on Robinvale-Sea Lake Road just before 2pm last Wednesday.

Police said the driver, 20, was detected at 136km/h in a 100km/h zone, driving without a passenger, not displaying L plates and returning a positive oral fluid test to cannabis.

He was issued a three-month licence suspension and fined $601 for speeding, $925 for driving unaccompanied and $185 for failing to display L plates.

Manual instruction

DRIVING a manual vehicle with an automatic licence condition has proved costly.

Police stopped a Nissan ute travelling north on the Murray Valley Highway at Tyntynder at 4.50pm on March 1.

The 24-year-old was traveling at 113km/h in a 100km/h zone.

Police said the ute’s tray was full of loose items that “would possibly fall out if hitting a pothole in the road”.

He was fined a total $832 for speeding driving outside of licence condition and unrestrained load, and lost three demerit points.
