Cohuna set for flag tilt

FOLLOWING on from signing Nathan Hammond and Lucas Conca, Cohuna has again raided the Blackburn Football Club, bringing in former AFL-listed footballer Pat Contin.

Contin was the captain of Blackburn for four years, leading them to a trio of deep finals runs.

The midfielder/half-backman’s leadership and experience are sure to be a vital asset to a Kangas side already looking primed to go one better than their grand final defeat.

Growing up in South Australia, Contin won a flag with Glenelg in the Under 18s in 2009 before being rookie drafted to Richmond the following year.

Contin would become a staple of the VFL across the first half of the previous decade, playing six years with Richmond and Coburg.

Boga looks north for talent

LAKE Boga has again turned its attention to the Sunshine State bringing in Queensland product Lochie Lang for the 2023 season.

He will join ex-Maroochydore teammate Jake Warren as the Magpies attempt to continue their rise up the ladder.

Lang moved to Maroochydore Football Club in the QAFL after playing his junior footy at Nambour Hinterland.

Premiership experience is invaluable and Lang will bring plenty, having gone back-to-back in 2017-2018 with Maroochydore.

The following season is what will have Magpies fans excited, though.

In 2019 Lang won the Maroochydore best and fairest and came runner-up in the league as well.

He is likely to play across the centre half-forward line but is sure to be thrown into the midfield rotations at stages.

“I’m excited about joining the club as it’s a great new opportunity for me,” Lang said in a message on the Magpies’ Facebook page.

“I’m looking forward to the year, getting to know everyone around the club and having the club’s best year ever.”

Saints’ spree rolls on

TOOLEYBUC Manangatang has gone on a signing spree this summer and appears to have concluded it by welcoming in former Gold Coast Sun academy player Jaicob Kenny.

The 193cm general defender will add some height and bulk to the Saints’ defence.

Kenny’s resume is impressive, playing in the Queensland Under 18s side and spending two years with Southport in the NEAFL.

Kenny won back-to-back flags with Gold Coast-based Labrador in 2015-2016, where he was also a part of the club’s team of the decade.

More recently, Kenny played his footy at Heidelberg in 2022.

He’ll link up with former Southport team mates Josh Williams and Blake Grant as the Saints attempt to extricate themselves from the bottom of the ladder in 2023.
