Around the churches

Anglican

THE last two Sundays have been services with a difference.

To the clip clop of horses, the sounds of old cars, children and musicians, we celebrated an older style service at the Pioneer Settlement. Many people, including Rev Denis, dressed in pioneer clothing.

Then we went to the Paragon Cafe for refreshments.

Last Sunday, we celebrated “Defence Sunday”, where we gave thanks and prayed for the work of the chaplains with the air force, army and navy.

A letter from the Anglican Bishop to the defence forces was read and an enlightening video was shown, where leaders and a variety of personnel and their families expressed how valuable the chaplains work and presence was, both out in the field and for the families left at home.

They said chaplains provided a moral compass, comfort and practical assistance. Praise God.

Tomorrow night at Ultima is the monthly service at 7.30pm in the hall. All welcome.

Grain Shed

TOMORROW is Remembrance Day, we take a moment to honour the service of many men and women who fought for their country.

One of Britain’s most famous wartime poems, Laurence Binyon’s For The Fallen – also known as Ode To Remember – was first published in September 1914, just a couple of months into the First World War.

While he was too old to enlist at the time, Binyon would go on to volunteer his services in a military hospital in France and would go on to write about his experiences in books and further poems.

They shall grow not old, as we that are left grow old:

Age shall not weary them, nor the years condemn.

At the going down of the sun and in the morning,

We will remember them.

Lest we forget.

The end of the year is quickly approaching and our thoughts turn towards Christmas and the coming of our Lord Jesus as a baby, coming to dwell among us, Emmanuel.

Celebrations start with our Grain Shed Kids holding a “Jingle Jam” family fun day on December 4.

We are still collecting hampers and have had almost 50 full ones returned ready to bless our local community. Collect a bag and a shopping list from the foyer if you’d like to be part of this.

This Sunday, Pastor LaMont will continue his series on “Hope, Impacting our World”.

Matthew 28:19-20

“Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptising them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.”
