New coach, new vision

PRE-SEASON training is in full swing for Leitchville Gunbower netballers with new coach Grant Mathews bringing experience and a new perspective.

Strong training attendance and innovative techniques have energised the squad.

“Training attendance has been strong,” said team representative Carmen Dye. “Grant has introduced exciting new drills that no one has seen before.”

While the final team line-up is still being confirmed, there is potential for several new players to come on board in the coming weeks.

“We’re hoping to welcome a couple of new faces, but we’re just waiting on final decisions,” Dye said.

The club is focused on rebuilding its culture: “We want our club to be a welcoming place where everyone enjoys netball,” Dye explained.

This year, a major focus will also be on junior development.

“All of our juniors are welcome at Tuesday night training, and they get the chance to experience the same structures and ball work as our senior players,” Dye said.

“Some of them may even have the opportunity to play in senior or higher-grade matches, which is really exciting.”

The team is looking forward to the season ahead with a renewed sense of enthusiasm and a clear commitment to fostering a positive and inclusive environment.

“We want our club to be one where people feel welcome, wanted, and truly part of something special,” Dye said.

The season is set to kick off soon, and fans can expect to see a strong, united team ready to take on new challenges.
