THE Murray Valley State Fours for men and ladies were played at Nyah District on Sunday.
Winners of the ladies’ section were Judy Wilson, Teresa Furnell, Noelene Weir and Connie Rovere of Murray Downs, who won 18/14 from Kylie Gardner, Carol Smith, Dawn Doran and Helen Frame of Racecourse.
The men had three sections, with teams from Murray Downs winning all three. Section 1 was won by Kevin Rowe, Ray Halligan, Mick Hollingworth and Chris Power, section 2 by Josh Thornton, Buck Lehmann, John Caldwell and Gary McCaig and section 3 by Peter Brook, Ray Wilson, Matt O’Bree and Mick Tempini.
The semi final will be played at Nyah on Sunday morning, between Kevin Rowe and Peter Brook and will start at 9.30am. The winner will play Josh Thornton at 12.30pm in the final.
On Monday next week, entries will close at 5pm for the 60 and over men’s and ladies Singles, which will be played at the Swan Hill Bowls on Thursday next week at 9.30am. Entries will close for the men’s and ladies State Pairs on Monday next week at 5pm. The pairs will be played at Murray Downs on Sunday, October 23 at 9.30am.

SOCIAL bowls last week was well attended again, with 27 players participating.
The winners were Peter Furnell, Neville Martin and Bev McCartney, while the runners-up were Garry McCaig, Keith Burrage and Mary Barry.
The State Fours ladies was played last Sunday at Nyah, with the Murray Downs team of Teresa Furnell, Judy Wilson, Noelene Weir and Connie Rovere winning against the Racecourse ladies. They will now progress to the finals in March.
The men’s State Fours were also played last Sunday at Nyah, with three Murray Downs men’s sides in the finals.
The team of Kevin Rowe, Ray Halligan, Mick Hollingworth and Chris Power will play off in the semi-final against Peter Brook, Ken O’Bree, Ray Wilson and Mick Tempini. The winner will then play Josh Thornton, Buck Lehmann, John Caldwell and Garry McCaig in the final.

CONGRATULATIONS to Kylie Gardner, Carol Smith, Dawn Doran and Helen Frame, who finished runners-up in the State Fours last weekend at Nyah.
Jackpot bowls on Wednesday was won by Bob McIntosh and Kaye Roberts, with two wins and +4 shots. Runners-up, with one win and +1 shot, were Ernie Russell, Helen Frame and Peter Holland.
The club triples’ draw and the women’s singles have been done and players should try to get their matches played this week. Sheets are on the board for the men’s club singles and the hundred up. Please put your name down if you intend to play.
Entries for the state 60 and over singles and State Pairs close on Monday at 5pm.
The Racecourse Bowls Club is going to try to get Bowling with Babes started on Thursday next week at 10am (weather permitting). Come along and meet new friends and have fun, with bowls and babysitters available.

SWAN HILL
THE weather is a bit of a hit and miss for bowls at the moment, with the forecast rain on Wednesday deterring people from turning up to social bowls.
Fortunately, last Saturday and Tuesday were fine for the first rounds of the weekend and midweek pennant season. Division 4 will be the only team at home tomorrow and both midweek teams are away on Tuesday. Please check the notice boards for selection and see your skips regarding travel arrangements.
Practice days and Friday Frolic have been well attended, with last Friday we enjoyed the company of bowlers from Inverloch and Beaumaris. Remember, that if it rains today and bowls can’t be played, Mick’s raffles and happy hour will still be on. Bowlers and non-bowlers are all welcome to join in.
The Inaugural Melbourne Cup Calcutta is being held at the Swan Hill Bowls Club on Sunday, October 30 and is still open for anyone wishing to participate. Starting time is 1.00pm with an entry fee of $5. For further details, contact Mick on 0428 553 913.
Lunches will be available to order prior to play for the Murray Valley State Events, that are scheduled to be held at the Swan Hill Bowls Club.
Congratulations to Alan Marshman on his recent 90th birthday. Alan joins an elite group of bowlers at Swan Hill Bowls Club in their nineties, with four in total. All are still active, competitive bowlers and can hold their own on the green. Not forgetting, one non-active life member that was an excellent bowler prior to retiring from the game.
LAKE BOGA
LAKE Boga had all teams at home for the start of the pennant season last Saturday and had a good day winning all rinks in Division 1, two rinks in Division 3 for a win and Division 4 went down by a few shots – well done Boga.
Wednesday next week we have our monthly meeting at 7.30pm, all are welcome. On duty next Wednesday for social bowls is Ken Hamill.

TOOLEYBUC
WELCOME back to all bowlers for the 2022-23 pennant season. The first round of Saturday pennant got under way last week and Tooleybuc played Murray Downs 4 at Murray Downs.
All rinks tried their hardest for the first round but unfortunately, Murray Downs were too strong, winning 83 to 48 shots.
Well done to A.Adams team who won Tooleybuc’s only rink on the day.
This week we play Lake Boga 2 at Lake Boga, so let’s hope for a much-improved effort.
It was a different outcome in the first match of the midweek pennant season, with the team playing Swan Hill 2 at Swan Hill. Tooleybuc was the overall winner, winning one rink by 15 shots and going down in the other rink by one shot on the day.
Next Tuesday, Tooleybuc will play Racecourse 3 at Racecourse.
