Murrabit grabs grand final spot

MURRABIT defeated Macorna by nine goals at Wandella at the weekend in the Golden Rivers Netball League preliminary final.

After Murrabit’s shock loss to Nullawil the week before, the premiership favourites were keen to redeem themselves. The game was well contested with pressure at every turn.

Kayla Casey of Murrabit suffered a knee injury early in the game and took no further part. Chloe Adams moved to goal defence to try to stop Macorna’s impressive Emmalea Wishart.

Murrabit went into the first break up by three goals.

In the second quarter, both teams struggled to make impact on the scoreboard.

The scores were three goals in Murrabit’s favour at half-time.

A goaling change for Macorna, in which Brielle O’Meara headed to goal shooter, worked magnificently and they cut the margin to one goal at the third break.

But the crafty midcourt of Steph Reeves and Mary Yates Ward ran over the top of the Tigers in the last quarter and Lauren Morrow and Grace Gillingham began to score often for the Blues.

Without the midcourt presence of Kaitlyn Wishart, who suffered a broken arm against Ultima in the first semi-final, Macorna’s weaknesses were exposed and Murrabit took advantage.

The Blues won by nine goals and booked their spot in the grand final against Nullawil.
