We are going to Hay

“WHERE are we playing the first final?” I asked.

He said, “Hay”. So, I said it a bit louder, “Where are we playing the first final?” He said, “Hay”. So, I shouted, “Where are we playing our first bloody final?” He shouted back, “Hay”.

Deaf bastard, I still never found out where we are playing our first final. We have our senior footy team and our B Grade netballers in the finals on Saturday somewhere.

Head over and cheer them on. Our senior footy team defeated Wandella last week in a dead rubber and we play them again this week in the first semi.

We play Quamby in the netball. Not sure where we are going. Google it. See you somewhere. Must make that deaf bugger get hearing aids.

Another wind farm

I HAD a yarn to another wind farm company this week about their project out on the Sturt Highway. This is a company called Kilara.

They are Australian owned and are keen to build in our district.

Evidently, once you get that high up, There is plenty of wind and it blows all night. A perfect replacement for our solar farms at night.

This wind farm will be 55km from Hay, 40km from Moulamein and 25km from Balranald. They are hoping to produce 800,000 kW of clean energy out of around 120 wind turbines. This project will cover around 24,000 ha.

There will be around 400 jobs involved in the construction of this wind farm. There could be as many as 12 full-time jobs to maintain this wind farm. They are willing to train workers to look after these massive structures. Once you are trained up, you can get a job anywhere in the country or the world.

Good opportunity for any of our younger members of our community to get in on the ground floor for a career that will only grow. For old fat fellows, like me, that are scared of heights and 150m of ladders, there are no job opportunities.

These things must be massive. They will be over 150m high to the turbine with more than 80m blades on them. The turbine part weighs over 200 tonnes. Somehow, they can lift this 200-tonne turbine over 150m into the air and bolt it onto the tower. There had better not be too much wind out there that day.

There not many cranes in Australia that can do this. I might ring up and get a quote on one to see if we can get a job out there. On top of this, they have to get these 80m blades that are all made overseas from the boat, out to the site.

Another job opportunity. I will get a quote on building a factory to make 80m blades or a bloody big truck to get them out here. There are several wind farms proposed for our district and they cannot all get up and going as even the new power line cannot handle the amount of power they can produce.

We can only hope that we get as many as the new power line can handle. They asked me if I could see any down side to this project. I said, “Bloody oath there is a down side, none of these turbines are on my property”.

Bring it on, I say. Green energy and district employment. What can possibly go wrong. At least there will now be something to look at when you cross the Hay Plains.R U

OK? night

LET’S start the conversation. We have had some tragedies in our little town over the past few years.

It’s about time us fellers got together and had a yarn after the last one.

Come into the Tatts Hotel on September 6 to get the conversation started. Just come in and listen.

There will be a couple of locals talking about their stories and how they fight off the dreaded Black Dog.

Sometimes daily, sometimes not for years, but once the Black Dog bites you, he can hang around waiting for another bite.

Come to the Tatts at 7pm for an hour or so. The least you can do is have a beer with mates and talk other stuff.

September Classic Bowls Tournament

THIS is going to be a great weekend in town. Even though it is called our September Classic.

Our bowls tournament will be held on August 27 and 28.

Do not let the name of our September Classic that is held in August put you off having a great weekend of triples bowls.

We have a full board the first time in many years so it will be a big weekend for our club.

Come over and have a look at 66 bowlers doing their thing. You can still put your name in and if someone pulls out, you are in.

For more information, call Kerryn on 0407 800 111.

Ute back

AS far as I know, the stolen ute is back. Phil is pretty happy about that.

I also heard on the grape vine that the alleged thieves have been caught. Let’s hope so.

We do not need scum buckets like that in our district.

River levels

THE Edward at Moulamein is sitting on around 2.5m and around 2800ML a day at the time of writing and has just started to rise.

This will change in the next few as there is over 5500 below Stevens Weir and still rising.

There are also flood warnings on the Murray River so that will head downstream.

Our Billabong Creek has well over 7000ML coming into it at the top and is still rising.

I do not know what 7000ML does in our Billabong by the time it gets here, but we are about to find out.

The water takes about a month to get here so we will have plenty of warning before anything happens.

One more rain up top and look out.
