WE create art for a lot of different reasons – to tell a story, to revere, display weather or religious ideas, according to Swan Hill Regional Art Gallery Ian Tully said.
“But, what we’re looking at in this particular exhibition is the different way in which artists can tell a story,” Mr Tully said.
The Story Part Two exhibition will officially open at 6pm tonight.
Four of the seven artists with work displayed will attend the opening, including Wayne Elliot, Glenn Morgan, Matthew Clarke and Jason McArthur.
Attendees will have the opportunity to meet all the artists and discuss their works with them one-on-one.
“We had The Story Part One a couple of years ago, and what we’re doing here is looking at the way artists capture moments,” Mr Tully said.
“What is it that has made this artist produce this work, and what is it that’s triggered them.
“We know that we document things to tell stories about what’s happened, and some of the ways that artists can capture that are explicit. It’s straight out there, and you can see that in this exhibition.
“It’s broad and a lot of fun.”
Glenn Morgan has completed several works that are sure to capture eyes, including a thought-provoking piece about the lockdown and a small interactive piece on former Australian Test cricket captain Steve Waugh’s famous last ball Ashes ton.
“He has done quite a few pieces in this exhibition, and anyone who lived in Melbourne during the lockdown will be able to relate to one of his works here that is quite amusing and sad at the same time.
“Little people in windows of buildings … they tell a remarkable and significant story of that time during the pandemic,” Mr Tully said.
The exhibition will be open until August 28.
