Swans remain unbeaten … just

The Swan Hill Soccer Club’s Men’s team kept their undefeated season in tact with a 1-1 draw against FC Eaglehawk on Sunday.

The result sees the Swans maintain top spot on the BASL Division 2 League Cup ladder after four rounds, with Sunday’s game the first League Cup match they failed to secure the three points.

In their first journey to Bendigo, Swan Hill was slow out of the blocks, with Eaglehawk dominating possession but unable to put it on the scoresheet as the Swans defence held firm.

The deadlock was broken in the 30th minute when a defensive foul was awarded to Swan Hill, with centre back Jim De Gregorio sending a quality long ball into the path of striker Ethan Fox, who edged it past Eaglehawk keeper Campbell Richards for the opening goal.

With Swan Hill 1-0 up, the game quickly went up a level as Eaglehawk continued to press, with the Burra equalising in the shadows of half-time through Daniel Bell – seeing the scores locked at 1-1 at the break.

Swan Hill captain Cooper Fox implored his team to maintain the pressure on their opposition and make better use of their possession at the break, which the Swans did in a physical second half.

Eaglehawk continued to press hard, but couldn’t get past Michael Kadar, Blaze Hamilton, Anyueer Buol or Jim De Gregorio in defence, while keeper Riley Mccosh made a number of quality saves to keep the scores tied.

While Eaglehawk continued to control possession in the second half, Swan Hill had the better opportunities to win the game late on the counter, with Cooper Fox, Wiseman Sibanda and Akhil Sahni posing a threat late.

It all amounted to little however, with the match ending 1-1.

Swan Hill’s men’s team will face Moama-Echuca Border Raiders this Saturday and attempt to secure a top of the ladder finish in the BASL Division 2 competition, while the women’s and under 16 boys teams will face off against Castlemaine Goldfields FC and Strathdale SC respectively, after both had the bye last weekend.
