Swan Hill players face next cup challenge

SWAN Hill Soccer Club Men’s team will be out to claim their fourth straight win in the BASL League 2 Cup competition when they take on FC Eaglehawk on Sunday afternoon.

The Swans find themselves a game clear on top of the League Cup ladder following their 3-0 victory over the Deniliquin Wanderers at Ken Harrison Reserve last Saturday, with striker Conner Brown continuing his stellar mid-season form with yet another hat-trick.

Brown’s eighth-minute strike gave the home side the early advantage before the Swans talisman doubled the score three minutes before the half-time whistle.

From there, Swan Hill never looked back, controlling the game despite Deniliquin’s constant attack and efforts to get back into the game. It all amounted to little for the visitors, however, as Brown struck again in the 88th minute to seal the win and claim outright top spot on the ladder.

While the men’s team is showing strong form, this Sunday will pose a much sterner test. The encounter will be Swan Hill’s first match for the season against FC Eaglehawk, who are sitting in third on the League 1 senior and reserves ladders.

With both Cooper Fox and Conner Brown in strong scoring form and a settled defence led by Jim De Gregorio, Joel Page and Riley McCosh in goals, Swan Hill are still a strong chance of bringing home some points from the match.

The men will be the only Swan Hill team in action this weekend, with both the women’s and under-16 boys teams both having byes. The women’s team will no doubt enjoy the rest, following their loss last Sunday to the very strong Kyneton District SC at the Ken Harrison Reserve.
