Swans look to seal Division 2 premiership

THE Swan Hill Soccer Club men’s team will be out to secure their first piece of silverware this season when they face the Moama-Echuca Border Raiders at Moama on Saturday afternoon.

The Swans find themselves six points clear on top of the BASL Division 2 ladder.

With just two rounds in the home-and-away season remaining, a win against the Border Raiders, coupled with their superior goal difference, would give them an unassailable lead on the table and claim the Division 2 premiership.

It will be the third time Swan Hill and Moama-Echuca have met this season. The Swans claimed a comfortable 9-0 win in round 1 before following up with a dominant 13-0 victory at Ken Harrison Reserve in round 4.

But Saturday’s much is expected to be a much tougher contest, with the Border Raiders expected to have close to a full-strength side available this time.

Also in action will be Swan Hill’s under-16 boys side, who face an away game against Strathdale. The Swans haven’t taken to the pitch in the past two weeks and will be keen to return to action in search of their fourth win of 2022 – and push into the top six heading into the second half of the season.

It will be the women’s turn come Sunday, when the Swan Hill side travel to Castlemaine to take on Castlemaine Goldfields. Still searching for their first win of the season, the young Swans have been making steady progress through the opening rounds, with defenders Amity and Sarah Scott, midfielder Malyna Tants and Taylah Baird among many others all showing signs of improvement.
