MURRAY DOWNS

MEDLEY par was the competition on Thursday and Luke Doolan ended up on top again, with his total of +4 winning A grade and the best score of the day.

Runner-up in A grade was Chris Grant with +3, while B grade was won by Tony Wilson, winning on a countback over Terry McEwan with both scoring +2.

To get in the placings, a score of -3 was needed, with the nearest the pins won by Robert Hinton (2nd), Luke Doolan (5th), Tony Wilson (11th) and Raymond Power (15th).

Saturday saw a shake up from the standard competition, with a four person Irish four-ball being the name of the game.

The team of Allan Spencer, Dean Farrell, Shane Ingram and Jason Baird won with a total score of 87 points, with second place going to Scott Mathiske, Matt Harrop, Luke Hogan and Jason Perry with 86 points ahead of Juandre Kapp, Steve Bulmer, Dave Hogan and Kobus Visser in third with 84 points.

Seventy six points was required for a spot in the ball rundown, while the nearest the pins went to John Tripodi (2nd), Luke Doolan (5th), Steve Bulmer (11th) and Tamika Hogan (15th).


MURRAY DOWNS LADIES

FORTY eight women ventured out to enjoy the newly renovated greens and to endeavour to win the March Monthly Medal on Wednesday.

Leanne Button, who has just recently taken up golf, was the recipient of the medal after scoring a handicap breaking 108-44-64.

Her score included 39 putts, so we can look forward to seeing more great scores from Button when she gets the short stick working, which will no doubt happen when the greens are back to normal.

Deb Watson was runner-up in Division 2 with a score of 71 nett from her 41 handicap, while in Division 1, Virginia Allen (23) with a 69 nett score won ahead of Maree Thurwood with a 70 nett score.

Lynne Bishop and Carolyn Zambelli, both with 71 nett, Julie Overall with 72 and Anne Webb with 73 led the ball pool, while Lynne Lawry won the putting comp with 32 putts.

Maree Thurwood collected two nearest the pin prizes, with the others going to Tamika Hogan and Lynne Bishop.

Ruth McAlister and Barb Upton both carded 18 points in the Golden Girls competition on Friday, with Ruth successful after a countback, with the nearest the pin prize going to Heather Evans.


MURRAY DOWNS DAD’S ARMY

ON Monday, March 10, members of Dad’s Army played the back nine, with the winner Brian Devlin on 18 points.

He was followed closely by Ray Frame and Rob Deighton on 17 points, with Barry Ingram, Damian Kelly and Tom Wilkins on 16 points, with Rob Smith and Kevin Maddy on 15 points and Barry Bishop on 13 points.

On Wednesday, March 12, members again played the back nine owing to the front nine greens having been cored and being prepared.

The winner was Barry Ingram on 20 points, while the runner-up was Tom Wilkins on 17 points.

They were followed by Rob Deighton (15 points), Barry Bishop and Graeme Bray (14 points) and Brian Devlin and Damian Kelly (13 points).

The weekly winner was Barry Ingram with 36 points, while the runner-up was Tom Wilkins on 33 points.

On Monday, March 17, the first round of the Championship was held, with Tom Wilkins returning the best score with 21 points.

He was followed by Robert Smith on 19 points, Barry Ingram on 17 points, Barry Bishop on 16 points, Robert Deighton on 15 points and Damian Kelly and Kevin Maddy on 13 points.

On Wednesday, March 19, the second round of the Championships was held, with Barry Ingram coming home with the best score of 20 points.

He was followed by Tom Wilkins on 18 points, Ian Dickson on 17 points, Robert Smith and Andrew Miller on 15 points and Barry Bishop, Robert Deighton and Ross Cox on 14 points. After two rounds, Tom Wilkins leads on 39 points and the weekly winner, in second place is Barry Ingram on 37 points.

They are both followed by Robert Smith on 34 points, Barry Bishop on 30 points, Robert Deighton and Ian Dickson on 29 points, Andrew Miller on 27 points, Damian Kelly on 25 points, Kevin Maddy on 24 points and Ross Cox on 22 points.

On Monday, March 24, the third and final round of the Championship will be held, with a 10am start to be followed by lunch and presentation of the Champion’s green jacket to the winner.
