Facelift for school garden

LAKE Boga Preschool’s riverscape garden area is being brought back to life, thanks to the efforts of parent volunteers and a generous donation from Swan Hill Bunnings.

Earlier this month, Dave Rough, from Bunnings Swan Hill, visited the preschool and parent volunteer Jenelle Gordon said the donation of plants valued at $250 was greatly appreciated.

The garden was not maintained during the long COVID-19 shutdown.

“It has probably been let go a bit not having parent volunteers on site during COVID,” she said.

“The garden had gotten a bit overgrown and it has been a bit of an ongoing project to get the grounds back up to scratch.”

With volunteers allowed back on site, it has meant that some much-needed weeding and tidying up has been done, and the Bunnings donation is now being put to good use.

“They gave us a selection of grasses, some ground covers and some bushier shrubs for around the fence area,” Ms Gordon said.

“The kids were so excited, they had Dave come to visit so they were very intrigued by him.”

“They really enjoyed having a look at all of the variety of plants that were donated.”

While one plant was planted during Dave’s visit, the rest will be planted in the upcoming weeks as an ongoing project allowing all the kids to have a turn.

“We are really appreciative,” Gordon said.

“We can’t really do projects like this without community support and donations from places like Bunnings.”

“So we really appreciate the support in getting the garden back up and running.”
