More places in low-cost hairdressing courses

By Sarah Buchecker

MURRAY ACE provide opportunities for all individuals to gain valuable workplace skills, offering more places at lower prices.

Offering flexible learning to the community in a safe environment, Murray ACE is a community-owned, not-for-profit learning centre that provides adult and community education.

Manager Leanne Shannon-Kelson said thanks to Victorian Government funding, Murray Ace could now help more people gain the valuable skills they needed to enter the workforce.

She said the two lots of funding received by Murray ACE enabled the training provider to offer more low-cost places and purchase new equipment.

Murray Ace this year added six extra low-cost Certificate III in hairdressing places and purchased new equipment for the course.

Funding was also provided to help unemployed individuals access Murray ACE courses at a cheaper rate.

“(For the hairdressing course) we have new dryers, straighteners, two new basins and chairs, and a number of new laptops as well,” she said.

“We have also got some funding available for people who are unemployed to be able to do any of our certificate courses cheaper than normal, but they have to have a health care card or have a pension concession card and be unemployed to be eligible.

“They can actually do a course for free and then just pay for the resources so it make it a lot cheaper than it would normally be.”

Ms Shannon-Kelson said the funding would help more community members from all backgrounds access training.

“It is all about trying to get people who may not be able to normally access training into training for a much cheaper price,” she said.

“It made the (hairdressing) course go from like a $6000 course down to a $2,000 and even cheaper if people have the concession card.

“The funding has been absolutely wonderful.”

Murray ACE take enrolments all year round and can be contacted on 5032 3719.
