Sale funds new neonatal equipment

A SWAN Hill clothing store has donated more than $5500 to Swan Hill District Health (SHDH) towards new equipment in the midwifery department.

Frankie and Co held a warehouse sale last month and committed to donating at least 50 per cent of the profits to SHDH and much-needed equipment.

The warehouse sale had a great turnout which resulted in the donation of $5530.

The funds will be used to purchase a new jaundice meter for the midwifery department, which will allow staff to offer a non-invasive method of screening babies for jaundice.

SHDH said the product was convenient and effective, reducing the need for blood sampling and therefore providing a better experience for both baby and parents.

The funds will also purchase a falls prevention machine for the sub-acute department. These machines use invisible beams to monitor the bed/chair of a consumer/patient at risk of fall.

The patient is not disturbed by these beams and not restricted by them. If the patient starts to move from the bed or chair, the invisible beam is broken, triggering the alarm and therefore alerting staff and providing the opportunity to prevent a fall from happening.

“Both of these items will highly benefit our staff and our patients,” acting director of clinical car services Catherine Kemp said.

“A big thank you once again to Frankie and Co. We greatly appreciate having a local business like theirs support our staff and assist us in our quest to continually improve the provision of our services to our community.”
