MURRAY DOWNS LADIES

OLIVE Spitty has established a 13-shot lead after the second round of the championships at the Murray Downs Golf & Country Club. Olive shot a round of 83 on Wednesday which followed on from her opening round of 76. Maree Thurwood is next best on 172, followed by Jo Watts and Paula Pickert on 174.

In B Grade, Marg Moore (179) and Sue Davis (186) are the leaders – with Naomi Domaille (188) next best. Jenny Lynas has a two-round score of 202 and is five shots clear of Barb Cadd in C Grade – while the D Grade leaders are Lois Tippett (218) and Deb Kelly (233).

Handicap leaders in the four grades are Paula Pickert (140) and Lyn Bishop (143) in A Grade, Marg Moore (141), Sue Davis and Georgina Douglas (both 144) in B Grade, Jenny Lynas (142) and Barb Cadd (151) in C Grade and Lois Tippett (144) and Deb Kelly (147) in D Grade. The top eight players in each grade will be seeded in the final round next week.

Jenny Lynas was the star in the daily competition, which was held in conjunction. Her score of 96 from her 30 handicap was made up of all fives and sixes and won C Grade from Col Roberts (28) 74. The B Grade winner was Georgina Douglas (27) 68 with the runner-up prize going to Marg Moore (19) 69.

Seventy-one nett was the winning A Grade score, with Lyn Bishop (16) surviving a count back from Kathy Parkinson (18). Kathy Brennan (43) 74 and Deb Kelly (42) 75 were the D Grade winners – while Judi Benbow and Sheila Beard led the ball pool with 70 nett. Paula Pickert, Val Hedwards, Col Roberts and Kathy Parkinson collected the nearest the pin prizes and Jo Watts, Olive Spitty and Rhonda Barrow shared the 12th hole birdie’s nest.

Jill McIndoe and Marg Moore combined well to win the four ball event on Saturday. Their score of 44 points was one point clear of Gaye Legudi and Belinda Gardner, with the next best being the combinations of Dione Heppell and Sarah Clark and Rhonda Barrow and Di Atkin, with both pairs on 42.

A small field contested Sunday’s stableford event, with Kathy Parkinson (18) 38 winning on a count back from Kerry Gammon (32).

LAKESIDE GOLF

A COOLER day with a light sprinkling of rain greeted the golfers on Wednesday morning, with a small field headed off playing a round of against par. Charlie Crow was the winner on the day, taking home four balls from three holes!

Mandy Ackland continued her good form, finishing square with the card to take home the winner’s trophy. Adam was runner-up with two down and Deanne (-3) and Jean (-5) took home the ball comp. Jean won the Lake Boga Cafe voucher for Nearest the Pin on the 3rd and the Lake Boga Marine ball on the 7th – while Mandy took home the Ball and stubby cooler for the Shaw Auto Electrical 12th hole and Joan’s ball on the 18th.

Next week is stableford, with all welcome – assembly from 9.30am for 10.00am tee off.
