The 19th Hole – April 20

MURRAY DOWNS LADIES

The 2022 Club Championships begin at Murray Downs Golf and Country Club next Wednesday, May 4. Played over three rounds, the event will be keenly contested over four grades. Reigning champion Mary-Anne Davis, who has won the title 15 times, could be challenged by Jo Jolly, Lynne Bishop, Mag Kiley or Val Hedwards – however, her ability to play under pressure should hold her in good stead.

Only 41 ladies ventured out in the misty rain on Wednesday, with Deryn Pinney finding the conditions to her liking with 40 points from her 33 handicap. Runner-up in Division 2 was Faye Palmer (33) on 34 points.

Val Hedwards (16) showed promising form for the up-and-coming championships with 33 points to win from Mag Kiley (15) on 31 points.

Ball pool leaders were Barb Upton with 33 and Sheila Beard on 31 – while Lois Tippett, Maree Thurwood, Sheila Beard and Jude Simmonds were the nearest the pin winners.

The Anniversary Cup commemorates the 25th Anniversary of the club and has been played since 2016. Jan Butcher is this year’s winner after carding 41 points from her 22 handicap on Saturday – with the next best score in Division 1 coming from Cath Lang (28) with 40 points.

Ruth McAlister (38 points) and Phasinee Chaiyasit and Robyn Bett (36 points) led the ball run down, with Phasinee also collecting a nearest the pin prize, as did Kristy Gordon.

LALBERT

On Sunday, April 24, a Stableford event was held with limited numbers, in part because the club had two Pennant teams participating in Kerang.

The winner was Maree Kingwill on 33 points, from Brian Curthoys on 32 points. The Nine-Hole Junior winner was Dakotah Meehan on 59 points, while the Nearest The Pin winner was Danika Meehan.
