Rising stars United and Boga face off

LAKE Boga and Nyah Nyah West United will face off on the court this weekend, having both well and truly proven themselves so far this season.

Boga is undefeated, having drawn with Swan Hill in a competitive Good Friday match.

That 51-51 draw highlighted Boga’s quality as the team matched up superbly against the Swans, who are always among the top performers. This performance came on the back of Boga’s 53-47 defeat of Tooleybuc-Manangatang in round one, and a dominant display of skill over Koondrook-Barham in their round two 67-17 victory.

But Nyah are also in top condition, fresh off a very narrow loss to last year’s runner up team, the Mallee Eagles in their last match.

To have such a close match after a 2021 wooden spoon year for United, shows the difference a few additions have made to the mood at Nyah.

Playing-coach Laura Anderson was a standout against the Eagles last week, and alongside newbies Matika Mitchell and Zoe Gray, as well as some of last year’s talent like Shania Decker, Nyah are a tough side to beat.

With no Kerang A-grade side, United have had a slightly stop-start beginning to the season with no round two game but they began well against Woorinen, with a 16-goal win.

It is likely to be a closer game this weekend. The Guardian predicts only a few goals between the two rising teams at the final whistle.

Other games in the region, will see Cohuna Kangas play Koondrook Barham in a night match, Balranald play Tooleybuc Manangatang, and Mallee Eagles play Woorinen.

Balranald and the Eagles should come away with the win, but the Kangas and Raiders will have a closer game.
