Senate candidate musters voices for climate action

AN online community event aimed at energising community climate action will take place on April 13.

Independent Senate candidate for Victoria Susan Benedyka has organised the Our Community Power event, which will feature professors Tim Flannery, Kate Auty and David Karoly. A message from federal MP Dr Helen Haines will also be shared at the event.

Ms Benedyka said the free 7pm webinar was aimed at encouraging people in sustainability, Landcare and community energy groups to continue their crucial work.

“Our Community Power will address the challenges ahead, and encourage the critically important role of community action,” she said.

“We also want to emphasise the role of government in supporting these groups.

“There is so much amazing work happening at a grassroots level, with very little support from government.”

A key reason for the event is the continued feedback Ms Benedyka has been receiving from Victorian residents through her kitchen table conversations.

“Concern about the lack of climate action is a recurring theme in every kitchen table conversation I’ve attended,” Ms Benedyka said.

“This event will focus on practical steps we can all take, as well as how we can be making our voices heard in parliament.”

Details on the event can be found on Ms Benedyka’s website, www.susanbenedyka.com.
