Amazing response to art request

AFTER putting out the call earlier this year for donations for their 9 x 5 Art Exhibition, the Fight Cancer Foundation Swan Hill Branch have been amazed at the response they received.

Members from Mallee Artists of Swan Hill (MASH) responded in a big way and have donated over 25 original artworks that will be exhibited and auctioned off as part of the new fundraising event for the Fight Cancer Foundation.

MASH has been a part of the Swan Hill community for 21 years, and will be celebrating their milestone as they host their own Retrospective Exhibition, that will be opening later in the year at the Swan Hill Regional Art Gallery.

MASH President Judy Brawn said the group has been apart of different fundraisers in the past and it made sense to lend a hand to raise some money for a worthy cause.

“As a group over quite a few years we have participated in quite a few different community activities,” she said.

“We thought we could help with it, and hopefully they can raise some money.

The group was started by Marg Lewis 21 years ago, and currently has around 25 members that regularly meet up and work on improving their skills.

“Some of our members run workshops,” Ms Brawn said.

“We also have well known artists come in and do workshops.”

“It is about improving our skills and working with the community to promote art.”

The group has in the past joined up with art groups from Robinvale, and have some workshops organised in the near future in Moulamein.

MASH invites anyone who enjoys creating art and having a fun time doing it to join the group who meet twice a week.

The group meets at the Murray River Motel in Swan Hill on Tuesday mornings and also at the Woorinen South Hall on Wednesday mornings.

The 9 x 5 Art Exhibition will open on Friday April 1 and will run until May 15.
