Mallee tabletop game lovers invited to jump on board

IF you love your tabletop games, then a group of likeminded people invite you to come and play.

Mallee Tabletop Games was incorporated in 2018, however has been running in a social form for a long time before then, and are looking for new guests and members to jump on board.

The group hosts two weekly events on Tuesdays and Saturdays. The Tabletop Tuesday evening is held upstairs at the Comfort Inn Lady Augusta from 6.30pm until about 11pm, featuring both board games and popular trading card games like Magic: The Gathering and Yu-Gi-Oh.

Saturday nights is when the group hosts their wargames nights at a private residence.

Club president Rachael Kelly helped establish Mallee Tabletop Games after relocating to the area from Melbourne a few years ago.

“We wanted to grow the club and become a recognised group,” she said.

“If you want to host proper events and hire venues you need to be an established group.”

The purpose of the group is to create an accessible and enjoyable experience for those who enjoy tabletop game and live in the Mallee regional community.

“There are a lot of different groups for various interests and we wanted to be able to have one there for people who enjoy playing games,” Ms Kelly said.

“People should be able to access groups that align with their interests and be able to mix company with people who love what they love.”

Worldwide a lot of interest has been on the rise with games such as Magic: The Gathering and Dungeons and Dragons becoming more popular.

MMA fighters, actors, athletes and musicians are among those who are not only playing these game, but also convincing people to change their perceptions and give them a go.

“A lot of these types of games allow you to become whatever you like,” Ms Kelly said.

“It is very creative and very inclusive, you can go into great depth if you like.”

The group gives people an alternative to other interest groups, allowing them able to have a quiet evening enjoying themselves while being able to socialise with others.

“The social impact is something that is important as with any other club,” Ms Kelly said.

“We are here to offer a relaxed, welcoming environment for those who love the hobby.”
