MURRAY DOWNS MEN

ANOTHER busy week of Golf at Murray Downs, last Thursday we held a par competition as Craig Fletcher (12) won A grade finishing on +3 and Shane Bacon (21) took out B grade on +5.

Christopher Tubb (24) cleaned up in C Grade and won the day finishing on a score of +8.

Saturday’s comp was the second round of the LJ Hooker Summer Cup, Brenton Cruickshank (10) couldn’t be beat on 44 stableford points, B grade’s winner on 41 points was Troy Gnitecki (15), while Cayle Mclean (22) was the top of C grade on 42 points.

Sunday was a Stableford competition as Brian Cunningham (23) scored the highest of the day with 42 points, he was followed by James Beard (24) on 39 points.

On Tuesday we had quite a few try to beat the heat in the morning of our par competition, Paul Bethune (14) narrowly beating Dale Smith (14) in a count back on a score of +4

Coming up next week we have our 20th Annual Seniors Tournament on Monday and Tuesday, there is a great-sized field coming to compete.

MURRAY DOWNS LADIES

FOURSOMES was the event set down for competitors at MDG&CC on Wednesday.

Players compete in pairs in this game, choose odd or even tees and take alternate shots to the hole.

On this occasion, Georgina Douglas and Carolyn Zambelli combined well to win scoring 99-27.5-71.5.

Only one shot behind were Avis Shipsides and Mag Kiley, Jenny Lynas and Judi Benbow on 73 finished in third place on a count back from Eilleen Willox and Laurel Dewhurst.

NTP honours went to Michelle Holt, Bev Holt, Marie Cruickshank, Deryn Pinney, Jenny Ford and Lisa Brady.

Antionette Kilderry (35) 40 points was Saturday’s star in Div 2, Joan Foster was runner-up on 39 points from her 33 handicap.

In Div I, Jeanette Tucker (24) has found form after a shoulder injury to win on 39 points from Rhonda Barrow (21) 37 points.

Mag Kiley and Sheila Beard, both 36 points led the ball pool and NTPs were Paula Pickert, Jenny Lynas, Rhonda Barrow and Lynne Bishop.

Jan Harry (19) and Jenny Waterson (20) often make the trek up the highway from Kerang to play at Murray Downs and on Sunday took out the honours finishing on scores of 39 and 35 points respectively.

The opening of the 2022 golf season is on March 2 – an Ambrose event in 4s will be contested, entries can be phoned to the Pro Shop on 5033 1427.

VETERAN

IN spite of a computer problem, Captain Graham was able to get a field of 30 veteran golfers on their way for the first veterans’ event for the year at the Barham Golf Course on Tuesday, February 15, thanks to the team at Barham Golf for your hospitality.

Ladies’ winner was Jean Youl, who finished on 38 points and runner-up Lorna Stuchbree finished on 34 points.

Men’s A grade winner was sweet swinging Ian Dodd who ended up on 38 points, Graham Wyte was runner-up on 35 points.

Men’s B grade was won by Fred O’Bryan on 35 points and Peter Hayward was runner-up on 30 points.

Ball Pool winners were Marg Learmonth, Kerry Gammon, Greg Gin, Peter Hayward, David Wilkinson, Bill Revill and Gary Thorne.

NTP winners went to Marg Learmonth, Dilly, Bill Revill, Ian Dodd, Hank van de Veen and Joe Tartaglia.

The next veterans’ event is at Kerang on Tuesday, March 15, there is an 8:30am assembly for a 9am start.

The AGM will be held after golf.
