Balranald Creative Learning Centre opens its doors

A CROWD of almost 100 people attended the official opening of the Balranald Creative Learning Centre last Saturday afternoon.

The Creative Learning Centre was built with funding obtained by the Balranald Shire Council through the Building Stronger Communities program. It also took many hours of work and donations to complete the project.

The building, which is adjacent to the old Masonic Lodge now known as The Gallery, promises to be a versatile space that can be used for years to come.

At the opening, a commemorative plaque for the building was unveiled by Balranald Community Arts and Crafts Inc’s longest serving member June Spinks and the Administrator of the Balranald Shire Council Mike Colreavy.

The formalities were completed with the cutting of the cake made by Kyla O’Halloran to celebrate 42 years of community volunteering, as well as the 142nd birthday of the old building.

The opening was notably attended by Libby Woodhams, who instigated the purchase of The Gallery more than 40 years ago. Ms Woodhams also held the first workshop in the new centre on Sunday.

As well as a diverse range of works being for sale, the community’s permanent collection will be on display until the end of March.
