NYAH District Lions Club has announced that their Australia Day breakfast event will go ahead, with the event taking place at Nyah West Park from 8am.
Despite similar events being called off in Robinvale and Swan Hill, Ian Brauer from Nyah District Lions Club said the event would go ahead as a COVID-safe event.
“We are going to hold the event following all the current regulations, and will encourage everyone in attendance to follow all the rules in place,” he said.
With a gold coin donation, the breakfast on offer includes all kinds of tasty treats including sausages, bacon, tomatoes, eggs, onions, toast, orange juice, tea and coffee.
Following breakfast there will be a flag raising ceremony which will be followed by the junior citizen award, which will be presented by councillor Stuart King from Swan Hill Rural City Council, with the Lions citizen of the year presentation to close the awards proceedings.
Guest speaker for the 2022 event will be Jonathon Chislett, who is the business and nursery manger at Chislett Farms based at Kenley, about 65km north of Swan Hill.
Chislett Farms is a major producer of oranges, lemons, mandarins, avocados and pistachios with the farms not only supplying local sellers but also exporting their product to all parts of Australia, and provides many employment opportunities.
With Australia Day breakfast events taking place in the Nyah district since 1988, Mr Brauer said it was important that the community could get together with limited community events being able to be held during the past couple of years.
“We really wanted to go ahead with the event as it is a really important for us to get together, we usually get a good turnout for the breakfast so we wanted to give the community the chance to come together,” he said.
Anyone attending is encouraged to bring their own chairs and water, and are encouraged to follow all COVID advice and regulations that are in place.
