SWAN Hill SES unit’s 2022 duck race has gone swimmingly, with a large crowd coming down to watch the 2000 ducks race their way down the Murray River.
With warm conditions bringing the event forward two hours, there were concerns that they would not be able to sell all the ducks in time, however they were sold out around 40 minutes before the ducks hit the water.
Vantage points in the shade were prime real estate, with the temperature still sitting comfortably in the mid 30s despite the earlier start time.
Setting off at the 10 steps, the healthy flow of the river allowed the ducks to reach their destination quickly, with the first ducks easily reaching the finishing line under 10 minutes.
The raft of ducks were quickly spread out, with even a few feathered ducks floating down the river next to their yellow plastic cousins, and guided the way towards the finish line.
The money raised from the sale of the ducks will be used to purchase new equipment, with an ultracombi combined spine board and scoop stretcher being the first items on the list of upgrades for the SES unit.Duck race results
