Moulamein secure a first win

MOULAMEIN recorded their first win for season 2021-22 in the MVPA Division 1 bowls competition at the weekend, defeating Nyah District by 30 shots.

With Aaron Worboyes leading his team to a 13 shot win on the second rink and Kerryn Evans leading her quartet to a 18 shot win on the first rink, the win was never in doubt, as Moulamein put the Demons to the sword.

It wasn’t all bad news for Nyah District though, with Graham Muir managing to claim two match points for his team with a hard fought 19 to 18 shot win on the third rink over Graham Edmonds side, to salvage some respectability for the Demons.

In what many expected to be a hard fought encounter between two of the competitions leading contenders, the reality is it was anything but, as Swan Hill dominated Racecourse with an 83 shot to 52 win.

The team of Lyndon Shadbolt, Frank Jacka, Owen Lewis and Diane Millsteed did most of the damage, recording a 17 shot win on their rink – while not to be outdone, Brian Mansbridge quartet also had a strong result over Mark Snel’s team, winning 29 shots to 14.

The only positive for Racecourse came on rink one, where Norm Smith, Glenn McIntosh, Shane Domaille and Kylie Gardner held on for a hard fought one shot win over Gary McGrath’s team.

In the final game of the round, Murray Downs continued on their winning ways, defeating Lake Boga on all three rinks to claim all twelve match points.

Murray Downs flexed their muscles on all three rinks, with wins by 16, 14 and 11 shots respectively, to run out with a dominant 41 shot win and remain undefeated through the opening five rounds of the season.
